Brief highlights from the day-before-game visit to RFK Stadium.
1. Christian Gómez (bruised toe) joined Ben Olsen (hamstring) on the OUT list for this weekend. That should pave the way for Santino Quaranta or Chris Pontius to claim the playmaking spot against New England.
2. We appear to be one step closer to the end of Louis Crayton’s time with DCU, as observations indicated that the two United keepers traveling to Gillette Stadium this weekend are Milos Kocic and Josh Wicks.
3. Avery John has been called up to the Trinidad & Tobago national team for World Cup qualifiers next week.
Speaking of which, there’s much to mull over from U.S. national team head coach Bob Bradley’s conference call with reporters. From way deep in the queue, I still got my question in: Is playing in front of a potentially pro-Honduran crowd at Soldier Field a mistake?
Bradley: “Soldier Field has always been a great venue. Speaking for the players, I know how much they enjoy playing in stadiums where there’s atmosphere, where there’s a lot of passion for the game. Even in the game in Columbus, as a good example, we don’t really know at the end of the day exactly how the crowd was split in terms of the support for our team and support for the Mexican team. What we did know was that there were a lot of people there for us, and we hear them. We appreciate what they bring. Whatever it ends up like in Soldier Field, we know that there’s still going to be a lot of the most loyal U.S. supporters there wearing the red, white and blue to show how much our team means to them, and that’s what counts.”
