Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth is with his family in Tennessee after the death of his half-brother in a motorcyle accident. His status for Sunday’s game vs. Green Bay is uncertain. Clearly, the game is less important than what his family is enduring. Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said he spoke with Haynesworth Thursday night, but obviously not about football.

“I don’t know that I would ask somebody if they were going to play when a tragedy like that just happened,” Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said. “We’ll let the course of time take care of itself and we’ll find out what’s going on….What he’s going through now is paramount. Obviously we’re giving his family a lot of prayers and thoughts. That’s the main concern now.”
If Haynesworth can’t play, then the Redskins could decide to activate nose tackle Anthony Bryant, giving Maake Kemoeatu a backup. Bryant, who missed the past two games with a concussion, is OK to play, Shanahan said.
However, because the Packers don’t run the ball a lot, the Redskins will be in a lot of nickel situations. That means Vonnie Holliday could be a more likely option than Bryant, who is much better vs. the run than the pass.
