Second DUI charge in four years for first-year Maryland assistant
Maryland assistant coach Dalonte Hill was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and has been suspended for the Terrapins’ next two games as the matter is under investigation. He will miss Saturday’s game at Temple and Wednesday’s home game against Duke.
Head coach Mark Turgeon refused comment in Friday’s press conference, after reading a school statement on the incident. The statement read: University of Maryland men’s basketball assistant coach Dalonte Hill has been arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence, the athletics department said Friday. The Maryland athletics department is working with all involved to gether the facts of the incident, and will handle the matter internally once the inquiry is completed. Coach Hill will not be on the bench for the next two games, pending further investigation. The athletics department will not have any comment until the case is resolved.

A question posed to players about the effect of Hill’s absence was interruped by Maryland director of media relations Doug Dull, who asked media members to refrain from asking any questions about Hill.
The school did not address where Hill was arrested. There is no record of the arrest on the Maryland judiciary website. Hill’s lone arrest in the state was 10 years ago in a traffic case. In 2008, he was suspended by Kansas State for one game after a DUI charge.
Hill, 33, was the subject of controversey when he became the nation’s highest-paid assistant coach at Kansas State despite a lack of experience. He brought several high-level recruits to Kansas State, including Michael Beasley.
Hill was hired by Turgeon for his D.C. ties and recruiting prowess. Hill played at former Kensington private school Newport Prep and coached the D.C. Assault AAU team after his playing career at Charlotte and Bowie State. His first college job was at Charlotte (2003-05), before moving on to Kansas State, where he earned more than $400,000 per year.
