Canada is on the board. The Canadian champions defeated Korea, 6-0, Tuesday at the Aberdeen Baseball Academy?s Fenway Park field during the third day of Cal Ripken World Series play. The victory was Canada?s first of the tournament after the team had been shut out in two prior games ? 1-0 to the Dominican Republic on Sunday and 8-0 to Australia on Monday.
Canada defeated Korea behind the six-inning pitching performance of Jeremiah Wood, who struck out 13 while only allowing three hits and one walk.

“I generally pitch full games,” said Wood, who also went 2-for-3 at the plate. “We needed to win this game, so I went the whole way.”
Wood came up with two strikeouts to end the top of the fourth inning with runners on second and third.
“I just try to blow it by them and strike them out,” Wood said. “I had to get the job done.”
Canadian manager Kim Greenall said that moments like that are key to his team, which also plays solid defense.
“It can be a huge momentum swing every single play,” Greenall said. “If it goes your way, then you have the momentum.”
Greenall said his team was nervous because they had not scored yet in the tournament.
“We normally do hit the ball a lot,” he said. “We had practice this morning. We did not do infield; we went right to the batting cage, and I threw 50 to 60 pitches to every batter.”
Left fielder Nathan Ackerman drove in Canada?s first run with a triple off the replica green monster. He later hit a home run to right that ripped the game open in the bottom of the fifth.
“It is a great feeling hitting it off the green monster and then an off-field home run in the same game,” said Ackerman, who was named Canada?s game MVP.
“That was 100 percent pure Canadian baseball,” Greenall said. “We did not give up.”
