NBA making some questionable calls on suspensions

As soon as the deal that would’ve sent Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers was rejected, it didn’t take long for some blame to land at the hands of NBA vice president Stu Jackson. Jackson’s first suspension of the season won’t help his reputation, as he made Milwaukee Bucks forward Drew Gooden sit out Tuesday’s game for a flagrant foul against Charlotte’s Gerald Henderson in the teams’ opener Monday.

Meanwhile, Celtics forward Kevin Garnett got to play in Boston’s second game of the year despite having his hand around the throat of New York’s Bill Walker when the two tangled after Garnett missed a potential game-tying shot at the end of the Knicks’ 106-104 victory over the Celtics on Christmas Day.

There aren’t any good “basketball reasons” for Garnett to escape without punishment. Maybe it was for competitive balance — the Celtics were at Miami on Tuesday.
