McDonald’s All-American Scottie Reynolds is a wanted man.
The Herndon High senior was officially released from his letter of intent to play college basketball for Oklahoma earlier this week after the coach he committed to, Kelvin Sampson, left for Indiana.
Reynolds, a 6-foot point guard and Northern Virginia’s first McDonald’s All-American since 1993, will still consider Oklahoma and new Sooners coach Jeff Capel visited the Reynolds’ home last week. But the list of schools now pursuing Reynolds reads like a who’s who list of college basketball. Georgetown, Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Villanova, Florida, LSU, Baylor, Illinois and Michigan have all expressed interest, according to Herndon coach Gary Hall.
“The reason for the attention is Scottie is the best guard available in America at this moment,” said Dave Telep, national recruiting expert for Scout.com. “So it’s a mad scramble.”
Telep pointed out the intense interest is also a reflection of Reynolds’ personality.
“He’s theone you pair guys with on official visits because he has that pied piper quality about him,” Telep said. “He may not be the best player in the program he goes to but he’ll be the most important.”
