Rosner scores with work ethic

In a senior class of 460, it?s easy to be viewed as just a number. For Elliott Rosner, he?s just as happy to be one of 11 starting players on the soccer field as he is to be ranked second academically in the entire senior class.

A left midfielder on North Carroll High?s 8-1 soccer team, he has succeeded both on the field and in the classroom.

“I want to have a good work ethic and succeed in school,” said Rosner, who his looking to pursue a pre-med degree after high school.

That work ethic is something that has been instilled in the 17-year-old his entire life. Whether it has come from his parents or his soccer coach, Dennis Snyder, giving maximum effort has always been expected.

“Coach Snyder, he always teaches us to work hard,” Rosner said. “It?s one of the most important things in every aspect of life. I feel that it helps set me up for future goals.”

A member of National Honor Society, Spanish club and environmental club, Rosner keeps himself busy with off-field organizations. With an unweighted grade-point average of 4.0 and an adjusted GPA of 4.63, no one questions Rosner?s priorities. In the classroom, he positions himself for success.

“He works hard and does everything the right way,” Snyder said. “He?s a pleasure to coach and a pleasure to have in the classroom.”

On the pitch, Rosner has started all nine games for the Panthers, playing a key role on the left side. His only point of the year, an assist, was a huge one. It came on a game-clinching goal in last week?s 3-1 win at Urbana.

For Rosner, though, this is most likely his last hurrah on the field. His dreams of becoming a doctor will likely conflict with the dedication it takes to play at the collegiate level.

“I don?t think I?ll play [in college],” Rosner said. “I want to be more focused on academics. I want to be part of this team right now.”
