LONDON (AP) — The Court of Arbitration for Sport has rejected Russia’s urgent appeal against an International Sailing Federation decision to declare Spain the winner of semifinal races in the Olympic women’s Elliott 6-meter class.
Russia wanted to continue semifinal racing Saturday after the governing body terminated the contest on Friday due to lack of wind at Weymouth.
CAS says its sole arbitrator dismissed an appeal by the Russian Olympic Committee at 11:45 a.m. (1045 GMT) Saturday, allowing Spain to advance to gold-medal races against Australia.
Russia will race Finland for the bronze medal.
CAS said reasons for the ruling will be published later.
