Washington Nationals prospect Stephen Strasburg allowed a single and a walk in five shutout innings Wednesday, striking out six in his third professional start.
The highly touted right-hander improved to 2-0 and lowered his ERA to 0.73 in Double-A Harrisburg’s 3-0 victory over Reading.
Strasburg signed a record $15.1 million, four-year contract with the Nationals in August.
The No. 1 pick in last June’s amateur draft pitched his way out of his toughest jam in the third inning. Reading’s Keoni DeRenne singled on a soft liner to center with one out before Michael Spidale reached on a throwing error two batters later.
Strasburg worked ahead of Freddy Galvis 0-2 before inducing a fielder’s choice grounder.
