Bimbo hopes she?s found the secret to correctly predicting winners for NFL games: superworms.
Moments before Baltimore?s favorite monkey selected which 14 teams would be victorious in Week 7, she munched on several, inch-and-a-half long earthworms, which supposedly are a monkey?s breakfast of champions.
“For us, it?s like being on ?Fear Factor,?” said Bimbo?s owner, Colleen Layton-Robbins. “To Bimbo, it?s just part of everyday life.”
Through six weeks, this much is certain: She knows the Ravens. She?s 4-2 in picking Ravens? games. She correctly picked them to lose their season-opener in Cincinnati, but also claimed they?d defeat Cleveland and lose to San Francisco ? both of which did not happen. So she?s 4-2, and the Ravens are 4-2. Coincidence? We think not.
This week, don?t bother watching the Ravens? game: Bimbo predicts they?ll beat the Bills, so what more do you need to know? Bimbo, along with friends Zoey, Cocoa and Oogie, watched the Ravens? victory over the Rams on television at her home at Frisky?s Wildlife & Primate Sanctuary in Woodstock. For the record, Bimbo?s prediction was broadcast on WJZ 13, so now The Examiner boasts the only prime time primate in town.
Bimbo went 6-7 last week, but remember, she doesn?t watch any other games ? and she?s still a monkey. But she extends her congratulations to WJZ?s stellar sports anchors Stan Saunders and Mark Viviano, who went 10-3 and 7-6 to emerge victorious after both selected the Giants to defeat Bimbo?s Falcons ? you really thought Bimbo was going to pick a human mascot to defeat an animal one? ? on Monday Night Football.
Up next for Bimbo: former Washington Redskins and Denver Broncos Pro Bowl guard Mark Schlereth, who won three Super Bowls. Schlereth is also an actor on “Guiding Light.” Tony Giro, who will also face Bimbo this week, doesn?t own a Super Bowl ring and isn?t an actor, but he sure knows more about Baltimore sports than the player nicknamed “Stink” ever will. That?s why beginning this morning, read Tony?s blog, “Tony?s Timeout,” at www.examiner.com/blogs/tonystimeout
It?s written by a lifelong Baltimore fan for Baltimore fans. Want proof? If you were a public high school teacher, would you spend one week of your salary on a batting helmet signed by a bunch of the 1983 Orioles ? without telling your pregnant wife? We know someone who did. That?s why Baltimore sports fans will want to take time out to read stories by a guy who is still devastated the Stallions and Skipjacks are no longer playing in Charm City.
