Redskins vs Eagles:Second quarter review

Half time: Eagles 27, Redskins 10

1st Qtr | 2nd Qtr | 3rd Qtr | 4th Qtr

» What a concept: overload a side and bring lots of pressure. The Redskins do not do that. Look what it’s done for Philly: a tipped pass and interception and then on the first play of the second quarter, pressure, sack and fumble.

» Can it get worse? Now Chris Cooley leaves the game because of an ankle injury. He was carted off the field.

» Nice job by the Redskins’ offense to take advantage of good field position; seems like in the last couple years when Rock Cartwright has a long return or two, it ignites the offense.

» The draw to Cartwright worked well. One reason the Redskins call the draw is because of the way LT Stephon Heyer gives away the call with his stance. He sets his left leg further back, a tip-off to a pass. But it helps them when they run a draw because the defense thinks a pass is coming.

» Campbell’s little pump to Santana Moss drew the Eagles’ attention and left Devin Thomas wide open in the back of the end zone.

» Cartwright came to play, that’s for sure. Nice hit on the kickoff return.

» The defense is saving Washington; no surprise by that. It could be 28-7 if the Redskins weren’t playing well on defense.

» The Redskins are starting to get pressure with their front.

» When Donovan McNabb is off, he can look awful on his throws. He bounced the pass to DeSean Jackson a good 5-10 yards in front of him.

» Antwaan Randle El’s days as a punt returner should be over. Now he’s starting to lose the ball.

» Stephon Heyer jumped early on the sack he allowed. And he was still beat. The same thing happened vs. Kansas City on the safety. And they say he’s more comfortable on the left side? As a guy in Cincy says, Child please.

» Love when the Redskins blitz from the slot, with Reed Doughty or even Justin Tryon. Both guys get there. One thing that helped on the sack was the zone drops by Andre Carter and Brian Orakpo.

» Wow. Nice to actually see a quarterback look one way and then throw back another to an open receiver. Chris Horton bit big-time on the pump and did not provide help to Carlos Rogers, who also bit.

» Jackson was a second-round pick in 2008. We’re just sayin’.

» Yep, Sherman Lewis provided the Redskins a spark.

» The Redskins actually have handled the communication well from the coaches box to Campbell. They did not take a time out until 34 seconds remained in the first half and they had no delays of game. So they have that going for them.

» The Redskins are down by 17 at halftime and the band is playing like it’s the opposite score. Not much booing. Guess everyone is resigned to bad football.
