First Quarter

Cornell senior M John Glynn owns the first period, scoring two goals, assisting on another, and winning three of six faceoffs to lead the Big Red to a 3-2 lead. Disciplined Cornell is at its best when it can dictate tempo.

Key Play »  Getting the lead. Going into the game, Cornell is 12-0 when leading after one period.

Second Quarter

Syracuse has a big edge in athletic ability. Orange defensive midfielder Jovan Miller makes the kind of play Cornell fears — forcing a turnover at midfield, racing the ball upfield, and finding Dan Hardy for an easy fast-break tally to tie it 4-4.

Key Play »  As time expires on a man-up situation, Cornell All-America M Max Siebald rips a sidearm shot for a 6-4 lead.

Third Quarter

Cornell owns the period. The Big Red are milking possessions and Syracuse is showing impatience, making turnovers when it finally gets the ball. Cornell out-shoots Syracuse 8-3 and Glynn wins both faceoffs. For Cornell, it’s all going according to plan.

Key Play »  At the start of the second half, Siebald, the fastest man on the Cornell roster, runs past Joel White and blasts Syracuse A Kenny Nims in the open field, inciting the Big Red sideline.

Fourth Quarter

When freshman Roy Lang scores on a sidewinder with 5:31 left, the Big Red has a 9-6 lead. But Cornell’s aggressive zone turns passive and Syracuse takes advantage. Goals 51 seconds apart by Stephen Keogh and Cody Jamieson give Syracuse hope.

Key Play »  Trailing by a goal in the final seconds, Syracuse is in desperation mode, but Nims’ check at midfield gives the Orange possession and he scores the tying goal on an unsettled play.

Overtime

Glynn wins the faceoff, but the possession goes awry when Syracuse D Sid Smith makes a clean strip, poke checking Hurley from behind, and scooping the ball off the turf.

Key Play »  With a good look, Hardy makes an unselfish pass, setting up Jamieson for the winning shot.
