Summer league could boost Heat G Norris Cole

MIAMI (AP) — The last time Norris Cole played a basketball game, he helped the Miami Heat win the NBA Finals.

His next game is Sunday. It’ll be on a much smaller stage, and come with a slew of added responsibility. The soon-to-be second-year Heat point guard is going to be asked to take the leadership reins for the team Miami is sending to Las Vegas for summer league, the five-games-in-seven-days grind mainly for developmental players.

Heat assistant coach David Fizdale is the team’s summer league coach. He says Cole will have the offense in his hands.

During the Heat season, Cole was a backup to starter Mario Chalmers. He’s one of three players from Miami’s title-winning roster headed out to this year’s summer league, joining Dexter Pittman and Terrel Harris.
