Good Counsel standout Brown commits to Maryland
It hasn’t taken Maryland assistant coach Mike Locksley long to impact recruiting. On Thursday night, during the Under Armour All-America game, Good Counsel senior Wes Brown announced his decision to play for the Terps.
Brown, a 6-foot, 190-pound running back, is rated a four-star recruit by scout.com, the most heralded and highest-ranked of the 22 players who have verbally committed to the Terps. Signing day is Feb. 1.

Brown, ranked No. 9 in the nation among running backs, doesn’t have blazing speed, but is elusive, durable, and sees holes well. According to scout.com, he had offers from 24 schools including Virginia Tech, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee, and Virginia. He rushed 158 times for 1,382 yards and 22 touchdowns for the undefeated WCAC champion Falcons.
Earlier this week, another former Good Counsel star, Zach Dancel, decided to follow Locksley from New Mexico to Maryland. Dancel, a quarterback at Good Counsel, started seven games at safety last year for the Lobos. He will sit out a season per NCAA transfer rules.
Also committing to Maryland was former Suitland wideout Levern Jacobs, who is spending a prep year at Milford Academy. Jacobs (5-11, 175), a former Marshall recruit, could help Maryland attract an even more prized Suitland recruit, Jacobs’ younger brother, Taivon. The junior speedster had 13 touchdowns on 35 receptions and an astounding nine return touchdowns this fall.
Locksley was hired by Maryland head coach Randy Edsall on Dec. 22 after two-plus seasons at New Mexico. He was fired in September and will be the Terps’ offensive coordinator. Locksley was formerly the top recruiter at Maryland and helped the Terps land standouts such as Shawne Merriman, LaMont Jordan, and Vernon Davis. Locksley, a former player at Ballou High and at Towson, has strong ties to the Washington area and successfully recruited many local players at subsequent stops at Florida, Illinois, and New Mexico.
