Bimbo goes big-time

Add a four-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback, a former Baltimore police chief and a popular morning radio personality to a list of people who can?t predict games as well as The Examiner?s pigskin-picking princess, Bimbo.

Bimbo picked a season-high 14 winners in 16 games to easily defeat Joe Montana (14-2), Ed Norris (10-6) and 98 Rock?s Josh Spiegel (9-7) as Baltimore?s most popular ?and now the smartest ? monkey will take her record of 96-64 into Week 12.

I know. Our monkey has gone 34-10 collectively the past three weeks ? and you might be skeptical how a 36-year-old monkey who can?t speak human and didn?t know football from baseball before she started watching NFL games alongside friends Oogie, Zoey and Cocoa.

So in order to prove the authenticity of Bimbo?s picks, we videotaped her latest selections, which can be viewed at examiner.com. Pay close attention to the confidence Bimbo displays as she grabs the pennant of each winning team. It was the same decisive manner she used last week, including when she refused to buckle to public opinion by picking Cleveland to beat the Ravens.

“Bimbo was watching the game on television and even with all of that commotion going on at the end of the game, she just sat there quietly and watched,” said Colleen Layton-Robbins, who owns Frisky?s Wildlife and Primate Sanctuary in Woodstock. “She wasn?t worried. She was like ?is that the best you have for me??”

This week, Bimbo?s challenge has been accepted by Marty Bass, a long-time morning and weather man for WJZ-13. Bass certainly can predict a thunderstorm, but how about a Ravens? victory in San Diego? He does, but Bimbo doesn?t.

Bimbo?s picks have been so “money,” we thought it would be appropriate to see how she?d do matching her football wisdom against Gary Geisel, the chief executive officer of Provident Bank who heads the largest independent Maryland-based bank.

Since Bimbo has been so “big-time” and larger than life, she?s also facing Stephen Geppi, the president and chief executive officer of Geppi?s Entertainment Museum. He?s also a minority owner of the Orioles.

And just like last week, the winner gets a banana.
