Aftera few years of working out the kinks in the minors, maybe 2006 is finally the year Floyd makes the jump to mainstay in the Philadelphia rotation.
Floyd, 23, earned a spot on the staff following a strong spring, and is 1-1 through three starts with the third-place Phillies.
Last season, the 6-feet-4, 225 pound right-hander split time between Class AAA Scranton-Wilkes Barre and Philadelphia. In the minors, he has a 31-36 career mark, with a 3.69 ERA in 100 games. Control issues and lack of consistency remain his biggest obstacles to remaining in Philadelphia.
Floyd has a career record of 3-2, with a 6.63 ERA in 13 games, including eight starts over two seasons in the majors.
He was the fourth-overall pick in the 2001 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, just before the Texas Rangers selected Georgia Tech slugger Mark Teixeira (Mt. St. Joseph).
