Morgan State became the first Baltimore school in 20 years to do the unthinkable.
The Bears upset Maryland, 66-65, in Comcast Center Wednesday, for the first victory by a Baltimore school over the state school since 1989.
On Dec. 12 of Gary William’s first season in College Park, Coppin State upset Maryland, 70-63. Morgan State (6-8) improves to 1-5 in the all-time series with the Terrapins.
Baltimore native Reggie Holmes led all scorers with 25 points, including 5-of-11 shooting from three-point range.
Maryland shot just 1-for-14 from three-point range and hit only 10-of-35 field goals (28.6 percent) in the second half, as Morgan State rebounded from an 18-2 Maryland run to come close in the closing minutes.
Maryland had an opportunity to win at the end, but Morgan State took advantage of the Terrapins’ 21st turnover to clinch victory.
