Caps F Troy Brouwer sits out practice

The Capitals were back at practice on Wednesday morning just about 13 hours after a thrilling 5-4 overtime win over the Anaheim Ducks. That kept their record at Verizon Center perfect (6-0) and improved the team to 8-2 overall with 14 standings points.

Troy Brouwer was not on the ice. The 26-year-old winger was bumped by Ducks defenseman Toni Lydman late in the third period and left the ice in pain. Official word from the team is a maintenance day. Brouwer, remember, had his right shoulder surgically repaired last May and did not go all out early in training camp.

Defenseman Mike Green started practice for the first time since hurting his right ankle against the Red Wings on Oct. 22. But he didn’t last long, leaving after about 10 minutes and watching the rest of the way from the bench. Here were the forward lines with Brouwer out.

The other six healthy defenseman – Karl Alzner, John Carlson, Roman Hamrlik, Jeff Schultz, John Erskine and Dennis Wideman – were all on the ice.
