D.C. United updates, including Pablo Hernandez

A new face among the players on the practice field for D.C. United this morning, 23-year-old Argentinian forward Pablo Hernandez, who comes to the U.S. from Uruguay, where he’s been with Defensor Sporting and Racing Montevideo most recently. He’s also has experience with Atlético Tucumán in Argentina.

Says United general manager Dave Kasper: “He’s been a guy that’s been on our radar for about a year and a half or so now. A player, we’ve tracked and are very interested in. He’s training, and we’ll make a decision. We’re taking an extensive look at him.”

Kasper also said that other signings remain possible so things will continue to be intriguing. No decision has been made yet on the future of Luciano Emilio – that is expected closer to July 15. Another player whose future might also seem to be somewhat up in the air is Christian Castillo.

“He’s done okay,” said Kasper. “I think it’s him a little longer to adapt than we would’ve liked. I’ll leave it at that.”

Not exactly an endorsement, and Castillo remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Carey Talley is also still out with concussion symptoms. He’s expected to have more tests tomorrow, but United head coach Curt Onalfo thought he might be ready to return later this week. Marc Burch (foot) is making progress, but his status for Saturday’s match at Columbus is still up in the air, as is that of Jordan Graye (hip flexor). Third string goalkeeper Andrew Quinn is at least back on the training field, too, but not training, just doing exercises.

Newly signed Bronko Boskovic is expected to arrive the first week of July.
