Rooting for messof BCS situation

It’s that time of year when college football playoff supporters start rooting for whatever would result in the biggest BCS mess. This past weekend was a real treat with four of the top seven teams in the BCS standings losing. So what’s the best scenario for the worst BCS championship game?

With the three top teams in the country being from not only the same conference but the same six-team division, only one can even play in the SEC championship game.

If No. 3 Arkansas can defeat No. 1 LSU on Friday and No. 2 Alabama beats Auburn on Saturday, there would be a three-way tie on top of the SEC West.

The tiebreaker would go down to the final BCS standings to decide which team would be “awarded” the opportunity to play Georgia — which hasn’t lost since Sept. 10 — in the Georgia Dome.

In this scenario, the true winner would be the SEC team ranked No. 2 in the BCS polls. That team would be locked into a national championship berth, while the top-ranked team would have to beat Georgia to earn a spot in the title game. And the No. ?3 team would make the title game with a Bulldogs win.

And a Georgia victory in the SEC championship game would lead to the most twisted title game that would feature two teams from the same conference — neither of which was even a participant in their conference championship game.

Maybe this convoluted conclusion to the college football season is just what is needed for the powers that be to finally realize the importance of a playoff.
