Oh, woe, the poor players who have the misfortune of being paired with Tiger Woods.
That was the tone of the coverage when K.J. Choi and Matt Kuchar were selected as Woods playing partners for the first two rounds of the Masters. The crowds, the cameras, the media questions, and the daunting prospect of playing with the world’s greatest golfer. It all added up to too many headaches, too many distractions, too much energy spent, and a wasted trip to Augusta National.
But after two rounds, Choi (6-under) and Kuchar (1-under) have survived the cut. Choi has played so well that he might have to face the music – playing with Woods (also at 6-under) again on Saturday.
Said Kuchar after round one: “There wasn’t that much distraction. It was just a bunch of well wishing and it was kind of good to be a part of it. I don’t know if maybe it even helped. Everybody was excited to see Tiger and whoever he was playing with.” Wow, a player actually embracing the extra attention that comes with playing alongside Tiger Woods. Amazing!
