The Joe Theismann Show to debut on ESPN 980AM

Joe Theismann one of the most entertaining and knowledgeable football analysts will be returning to the Washington airwaves on ESPN 980AM.

“The Joe Theismann Show” will debut from 8am to 10am the day after the first Redskins Preseason game on Friday, August 14th — and originate from Redskins Park in Ashburn, VA. The show will then move to its regular slot from 8am-10am on Mondays throughout the Redskins season. He will be joined in-studio by ESPN 980 host Kevin Sheehan.

In addition to his show on Monday mornings, Theismann will also play an integral role on ESPN 980’s Redskins Pre-game show broadcasts and be a frequent guest on other ESPN 980 shows throughout the week.

I have missed hearing Theismann on football and also talking about sports in general. I know this is a big coupe for ESPN 980AM and Redskins fans will keep the former Burgundy and Gold  QB busy talking football during the season but lets hope that Washington will be able to keep “morning Joe,” busy on 980AM after the season is over.

Some background on Theismann for those who don’t know…

He led the Redskins to a win in Super Bowl XVII and an appearance in Super Bowl XVIII and would go on to set several Redskins franchise records, including most career passing attempts (3,602), most career passing completions (2,044) and most career passing yards (25,206). He was the NFL’s MVP in 1983.

On the broadcasting side in 1985, Theismann was part of the Super Bowl XIX  broadcast team for ABC alongside Frank Gifford and Don Meredith. Theismann served as a color commentator on ESPN’s Sunday Night Football telecasts from 1988 to 2005, and on their Monday Night Football coverage in 2006.

More with ESPN 980 brass and Theismann himself next week.
