Top 5 reasons the Eagles may trade McNabb

Why would Philadelphia trade a quarterback who is only 32 and still playing at a high, albeit sometimes inconsistent, level? We have some answers:

1. The Eagles are planning for the future » It’s simple math, really. Kevin Kolb is 25; Donovan McNabb is 32. There’s a belief that he has done what he could do in Philadelphia so get a decent draft pick for the guy while you can.

2. Money » McNabb is due a $6.5 million bonus in May. Economics often play a factor, and if it’s a close call between two guys, money often wins out. And all three Eagles quarterbacks are in the last year of their contracts, which means decisions must be made.

3. Kolb’s rapport with the young players » This is a real factor, Eagles insiders say. From what we hear, Kolb is well-liked by the young players (including DeSean Jackson, Brent Celek and Jeremy Maclin). They like his confidence and a personality that is different from McNabb’s eccentric one.

4. Kolb’s decision making » He’s a coach’s kid and understands the game. He gets rid of the ball better and is more accurate on underneath routes. But the Eagles have thrived the past two seasons because of the deep pass.

5. McNabb’s willingness to leave » We’ve heard he would not refuse a trade to Oakland, but he would prefer one to Arizona (where he has a home) or Minnesota (where he would be reunited with Brad Childress, who coached him in Philly, and Kevin Rogers, his position coach at Syracuse).
