Top 5: PGs remaining in the tourney

March is supposed to be about guard play, yet a number of elite point guards already are sitting at home. Kinda stinks, doesn’t it Sherron Collins? Others are lost for the season– Michigan State’s Kalin Lucas and West Virginia’s Darryl Bryant.

And of the remaining point guards, we like Cornell’s Louis Dale for his play and Baylor’s Tweety Carter for his name. But here are the best remaining (Lucas would have been included):

1. John Wall, Kentucky » He’s athletic, a terrific passer and adept at getting to the line. He’s also considered a good leader. But he’s an inconsistent shooter and prone to turnovers.

2. Evan Turner, Ohio State » He’s not a natural point guard, but he’s a major playmaker. Turner never sits so if a team can harass him full-court all game, it could wear him down mentally and physically.

3. Isaiah Thomas, Washington » We like little guys (he’s only 5-feet-8). His quickness and athleticism — he’s dunked on players a foot taller — more than compensates. Thomas is not a great shooter, but often good enough.

4. Denis Clemente/Jacob Pullen, Kansas State » Both handle the ball and play fast. Clemente does a better job taking care of the ball, but is a streakier shooter. Both can score, though Pullen is more consistent. And he has a cool beard.

5. Jon Scheyer, Duke » He is usually an excellent shooter, though he has not shown that in the tournament (5-of-18 from the field). He’s still a dangerous player.
