Tiger to shoot Quail

Amid tabloid reports that his marriage is over, Tiger Woods has committed to play in the Quail Hollow Championship in Charlotte, April 29-May 2. Woods has played Quail Hollow four times in the last six years, winning in 2007 and never finishing worse than T11 (2005).

Woods finished fourth there last year to Sean O’Hair as he was bedeviled by the same balky driver that led to much frustration on his way to a fourth-place finish last week at the Masters. Quail Hollow is one of the shorter, tighter courses on the tour.

At Quail Hollow, Woods could find himself the target of more harrassment from fans than he faced at Augusta National, which has an exclusive group of year-to-year fans, oops, patrons.

Woods’ commitment indicates he may be following his previous routine. Last year and in 2007, between the Masters and U.S. Open, Woods played Quail Hollow, the Players Championship, and The Memorial. He skipped all three in 2008 after having minor knee surgery following the Masters.
