Toronto Blue Jays set franchise record with 25 runs in five innings

The Toronto Blue Jays knocked it out of the park on the road against the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.

In the first five innings of the game, the Blue Jays scored 25 runs, a franchise record for the baseball team. One of the moments that punctuated the achievement was a rare inside-the-park grand slam by outfielder Raimel Tapia.

“TWENTY FIVE RUNS,” the Blue Jays wrote on social media. “That’s a NEW #BlueJays record!”

The Red Sox never recovered as the Blue Jays extended their record-making run to finish the night with a 28-5 win.

The previous franchise record that was shattered by the Blue Jays on Friday was set back in June 26, 1978, against the Baltimore Orioles.

Blue Jay fans celebrated the team’s historic achievement on social media.

So did the MLB’s Twitter account.

If the Blue Jays had scored two more runs, Toronto could have tied the Texas Rangers, which set the modern-day record of runs scored in a game by one team at 30 in 2007, also against the Orioles.
