In the second of his four question-and-answer sessions with season-ticket holders, D.C. United president Kevin Payne said that he interviewed a candidate to fill the team’s head-coaching job on Saturday at his home in Northern Virginia. Apparently, the candidate in question is a currently employed coach.
Payne has maintained since Curt Onalfo was fired and Ben Olsen was promoted on an interim basis that Olsen wasn’t going to be considered for the permanent job at the end of the season.
In case you hadn’t seen my tweet from earlier in the week, I asked Olsen if he wanted the job. His answer: “I don’t want to get into it yet. I still have to sit down with them and talk about what’s next for me. Again, my focus right now is just trying to get wins for this team. Believe me, it’s enough to keep my brain on this task. Of course, it pops into your brain, but it’s something that, I don’t want to turn this into another circus. I want to talk to management, and we make sure that what’s best for D.C. United is what happens.”
