RB Tim Hightower
He will play for the first time since tearing his left ACL in an Oct. 23 game at Carolina last season. It’s tough to imagine Hightower playing any differently than he has in the past. But he must prove he can get through a game first. The Redskins need him to stay healthy this season.
CB Cedric Griffin
He hasn’t stood out in the first two preseason games, nor did he have a great training camp. If Griffin is going to be the No. 3 cornerback, his play must improve, especially with DeAngelo Hall moving inside in nickel situations. A third cornerback needs to be close to starter quality.
WR A. Armstrong
After missing all but one play in the first two games, Armstrong gets a chance to remind coaches what he can do. But given the competition for the final receiver spots, he must have a good showing. He’s an excellent gunner on special teams, which gives him a big edge.
OT Jordan Black
Do you keep him around as a swing tackle? If you want a veteran handling that role, he’s the only one available. But if they keep Black, that means they either will have nine linemen on the 53-man roster or put two rookie linemen on the practice squad.
G Adam Gettis
He struggled in his second preseason game, particularly on cut blocks. Gettis was too impatient trying to reach his target, too often ending up on the ground and tripping right tackle Tyler Polumbus. All rookie linemen must deal with this adjustment to the NFL. It takes time.
