Hostetler has a big day in victory

It was a quiet spring day Monday, but Daniel Hostetler made a lot of noise for the River Hill High boys? lacrosse team.

Hostetler led all scorers, as the River Hill junior attacker tallied six goals and had two assists in a 19-13 victory over Perry Hall in the Pikesville Panther Invitational Tournament.

River Hill?s Josh Hostetler had four goals and an assist, but he had plenty of help. Justin White had three goals and five assists, Matt Moss had three goals and three assists, Peter Ridge had two goals and Luke Hostetler had a goal.

River Hill (6-0 with the win) outplayed Perry Hall in the first half, but let the Gators climb back in the game.

“The first half was one of the best halves we have played,” said Daniel Hostetler, who is related to former NFL quarterback Jeff Hostetler.

River Hill head coach Keith Gonsouland said the game was about potential for his team. “[Potential] is just a hollow word if you don?t fill it,” Gonsouland said. River Hill went into halftime with a 12-3 lead, but by the end of the third quarter Perry Hall cut that lead to 15-10.

“We are focusing on going from a good team to becoming a great team,” Gonsouland said. “We are getting by on athleticism.”

Perry Hall outscored River Hill 10-7 in the second half and cut the deficit to 15-11 early in the fourth quarter. “We got ourselves in a hole early, but I was pleased to see my team show some character and come back,” Perry Hall coach Brian Moen said.

Perry Hall (2-5) senior Steve Coffman said: “In the first half we were still asleep from our early game.” In the early game, played at 11 a.m., Perry Hall defeated host Pikesville, 8-4.

Coffman had five goals in the game, as did Perry Hall?s Mike Capizzi. Perry Hall had single goals from Matt Guercio, Kyle Harrer and Dave Stinebaugh.

PENALTY TIME

» River Hill was hit with a three-minute non-releasable illegal stick penalty before the start of the fourth quarter. The Hawks allowed only one goal in that three-minute span, successfully keeping Perry Hall from taking advantage of the extra man opportunity.

» Perry Hall attacker Mike Capizzi scored all five of his goals in the third quarter. Perry Hall had a 7-3 advantage in that quarter.

» In Perry Hall?s 8-4 early win, the Gators had two goals from Coffman and Guercio, and a goal each from Capizzi, Harrer, Stinebaugh and Ben Carry. Pikesville had two goals from Adam Konstas and a goal apiece from Steven Plimack and Brad Friedman
