Simpson-Watson try to match Stricker-Woods

Leadoff duo are 3-0 for the U.S. in Presidents Cup

The Presidents Cup didn’t start well for Webb Simpson and Bubba Watson. The first duo off the tee for the U.S. two days ago lost two of the first four holes. But after that Simpson/Watson have been one of the most dominant groups in Presidents Cup history, playing a major role in America’s 11-6 overall advantage.

With a victory in the four-ball, just underway, Watson and Simpson will join Tiger Woods and Steve Stricker as the only players to go 4-0 together in the Presidents Cup.

After falling behind in their opening round, Simpson/Watson made seven birdies in 12 holes, an astounding performance in alternate shot, to blow past Ryo Ishikawa and Ernie Els.

In the next two rounds, Simpson and Watson have never trailed. Not bad for a pair of Presidents Cup rookies.
