The Sports Fix debuts today at noon on ESPN980AM

Columnist and accomplished sports talker Thom Loverro will join Kevin Sheehan today at noon on ESPN 980AM with their new show “The Sports Fix”.
Loverro has been a popular and frequent guest on The Sports Reporters” afternoon drive show with Andy Pollin and Steve Czaban on ESPN 980AM. He has also been featured on a number of other show on the station over the years.
There is no doubt that Loverro is entertaining and he should prove a very good compliment to Sheehan who has for the most part been flying solo since the program line-up change that sent Rick “Doc” Walker back to the John Thompson Show.
Earlier this year when ESPN 980AM let popular talkers Al Koken and Brian Mitchell go due to budget issues Bruce Gilbert the head man at Red Zebra told me that in time he would find Sheehan a partner for the Locker room Show.
Now 106.7FM is here and the addition of Loverro to the ESPN 980AM line-up should put them in good shape up against The Mike Wise Show with Bill Rolhand. Most of my email on the new format change at WJFK was aimed directly at Wise who listeners were not impressed with his show.
Give Wise time because only one week on the air is really way too early to judge how good or bad a host he will be.

Listeners should not underestimate Wise, he is smart, and with the help of radio vets Rolhand – along with super producer Chris Johnson they will step up their game.

Meanwhile Loverro is a wonderful storyteller and along with the versatile Sheehan “The Sports Fix” should be a strong show for ESPN 980AM.
I expect the Wise/Rolhand – Loverro/Sheehan battle to be a good one with the listeners benefiting from the competition.
The breakout stars from the launch of 106.7FM The Fan was the duo of Chad Dukes and LaVar Arrington who were widely loved by the listeners. My email box was full of nothing but good reviews for Dukes and Arrington. As for The Junkies they are a known quantity and their fans stuck by them, the guys will be fine as the morning drive hosts and likely will best ESPN 980AM’ s national offering of Mike and Mike
Washington sports do like local over national and The Junkies numbers will likely reflect that in the first ratings coming up soon.
So good luck to Thom and Kevin on day one of your new show.
