Redskins vs Falcons: Third quarter review

End of 3rd: Falcons 24, Redskins 10

1st Qtr | 2nd Qtr | 3rd Qtr | 4th Qtr

» Terrific opening drive and a nice mix of play calls. They had the Falcons off-balance, by motioning Mike Sellers to his right out of the I-formation and going the other way two plays in a row.

» So Marko Mitchell really is on the team. Actually, his inability to run more than a couple routes is why he doesn’t play more. But it’s good to see them use him at least a little bit.

» TE Fred Davis, believe it or not, is actually blocking better on the run than he has in the past. Doing a better job with his hands and is setting a stronger base. Yes, believe it or not. He’s not terrific but he is doing better than in the first seven games.

» On the failed third down play, it was tight end Todd Yoder’s missed block that prevented Rock Cartwright from scoring.

» Jason Campbell might not get a new contract from Washington, but he deserves a good parting gift. He’s not the best quarterback, but he has more to endure than most quarterbacks in the NFL.

» Jim Zorn looked comatose after the touchdown. Would be nice to see some of the fist-pumping fire after a score.

» That was a fantastic play by LaRon Landry on third down. Great angle, but impressive burst. Stecker is not that fast which helped but give Landry credit.

» Again, the play-calling has been very good in the second half. They’re minimizing how much the line has to block in protection and that’s helped.

» But Stephon Heyer just showed bad footwork on his holding penalty.
