Mystics hoping not to let one slip away in Texas

After a devastating home loss to Phoenix on Wednesday, the Washington Mystics hit the road to face the San Antonio Silver Stars tonight in San Antonio.

“We let one get away at home,” Mystics guard Alana Beard said. “Now we have to get it together and get this next win in San Antonio.”

The Mystics will face an equally desperate Silver Stars team. With 12 games left in the regular season, five Western Conference teams, including San Antonio, are within three games of each other in the push for the final two playoff spots.

San Antonio is also riding a wave of confidence after beating Houston Tuesday for the third time this season, giving them their first-ever sweep over the Comets. San Antonio forced 22 Houston turnovers, not a statistic the Mystics want to see after their own turnover-laden performance earlier this week against Phoenix.

“We’re going to have to play a solid game all around,” Mystics coach Richie Adubato said. “And certainly we know we have to take much better care of the basketball in order to win.”

After playing almost 18 minutes against Phoenix, Mystics forward DeLisha Milton-Jones said she will evaluate how sore her injured left knee responds after playing in an actual game. Barring any major setback, she will play as many or more minutes than she did against Phoenix, and possibly even more.

Adubato said that there is no set timetable for Milton-Jones, who came off of the bench against Phoenix, to be re-inserted into the starting lineup.
