Player of the Year

David Fitzgerald

Blake, senior

In his second year of volleyball, the 6-foot-7 middle hitter developed into a devastating force at the net, carrying Blake to its first appearance in the Montgomery County championship game. The Bengals lost to Sherwood in five games, but Fitzgerald was the game’s dominant player as he registered 35 kills.

Coach of the Year

Pete Siarkis, Sherwood

In his first year as a volleyball coach, Siarkis guided Sherwood (16-0) to a perfect season and its sixth Montgomery County championship in nine years. The 34-year-old, a physical education teacher at Sherwood, took over for Bonnie Gilchrist. He also is an assistant football and wrestling coach and a graduate of Einstein.

First team

Ryan Mulsteff

Damascus, sophomore

Leading vote-getter in balloting by Montgomery County coaches for post season honors, the 6-foot-2 leaper gave Hornets a dominating presence at the net.

Pat Norfolk

Sherwood, senior

Four-year starter provided athleticism and leadership as Warriors won a county title and a fifth straight division crown. Will play soccer at West Virginia.

Jeff Sandusky

Sherwood, senior

One of three soccer standouts who helped Sherwood to a 4A state soccer title in the fall and the Montgomery County coed volleyball title in the spring. Will play soccer at Shepherd.

Ryan Hock

Sherwood, senior

Two-time All-Examiner choice had 17 kills in the Montgomery County title game. Started four years. A standout goalie in soccer, Hock will play that sport at York.

Kristina Yee

Churchill, Senior

A dominating hitter at just 5-foot-3. Yee is the only player on this year’s squad who made All-Examiner three straight times. Will play club at Maryland.

Daniel Park

Whitman, junior

Big hitter plays for the Maryland Volleyball Program. Was second-leading vote getter in balloting by Montgomery County coaches for postseason honors.

Amanda Krampf

Gaithersburg, senior

Krampf, a setter and the Examiner Player of the Year in the girls (fall) season, was the No. 1 vote-getter among girls in balloting by Montgomery County coaches.
