Morris makes Wake up call

Parkdale forward Courteney Morris went from averaging double-figures as a junior to averaging a double-double as a senior, a rise that earned her a chance to play in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Morris has signed with Wake Forest, choosing the Demon Deacons over offers from Massachusetts and Rider.

“The campus, the players and coaching staff that I met all just made me feel welcome and comfortable,” said Morris. “I liked the conference, too.”

A second-team All-Examiner pick, Morris led Parkdale to its first-ever Prince George’s County championship, averaging 16 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists per game. She amassed 11 double-doubles and six triple-doubles during the season, including consecutive triple-doubles against Crossland, Bowie, Bladensburg and High Point.

The 5-foot-11 forward scored a season-high 33 points against the Cavaliers and had a season-high 24 rebounds against Laurel.

Parkdale also won a share of the Prince George’s 4A regular-season title and finished with an overall record of 20-4.
