Rising senior started all 12 games in 2011, faces criminal charge

Navy cornerback David Sperry, who started all 12 games last year, has left the academy. According to Maryland court records, Sperry faces a criminal charge – failure to obey a reasonable and lawful order – registered last week in Anne Arundel County.

“I can confirm that Mr. Sperry is no longer at the Academy, however due to Privacy Act regulations I cannot characterize the reason,” wrote academy Public Affairs Officer Commander William Marks in an email. “Regarding a criminal charge, I am not aware of any and have not received any reports of any.”

Last fall as a junior Sperry was third on the team in tackles (70) and tied for first with two interceptions. But he was listed as a backup on the depth chart after a strong spring by rising junior Jonathan Wev. According to Maryland court records, Sperry also had a traffic citation in February.
