Meet me in St. Louis

One established a club rushing record, becoming a key part of a playoff team. The other arrived as an unheralded rookie quarterback, only to snatch the starting job. But he’s best known inWashington for using his head — by knocking it on a wall. And the third appeared to be a long-term answer at punter, for a while at least.

Now all three ex-Redskins — running back Stephen Davis, quarterback Gus Frerotte and punter Matt Turk — play for St. Louis.

But only Turk plays a prominent role as the other two are backups. Davis, in his 11th season and first in St. Louis, has rushed 33 times for 160 yards with no touchdowns backing up Pro Bowler Steven Jackson. And Frerotte, in his 13th season, has attempted just three passes.

Turk, fifth in the league in net punting, lived in the same subdivision as Rams coach Scott Linehan when they both lived in Miami last year.

After Linehan got the Rams job last season, he went out for a jog.

“I was home for 15 minutes and Matt pulled up in the car and said, ” ‘If you’re looking for a punter, I’m good to go,’ ” Linehan said. “He’s having a great year.”
