Baltimore is almost ready to get extreme.
Before the alternative sport athletes can start pounding the pavement with their bikes and boards, construction workers need to do some pounding of their own. At the Camden Yards Sports Complex in South Baltimore, the Action Sports Pro Tour Dew Tour has begun setting up bleachers, ramps and dirt mounds for the competition this weekend.
Slated for June 21 to 24, the Panasonic Open will be the tour?s first stop of the summer.
The Greater Cleveland Sports Commission estimated the tour would bring in between 60,000 and 80,000 visitors, and draw between $8 million and $10 million in economic impact.
In 2006, attendance totaled nearly 250,000, and about 38 million average viewers tune in each year to watch the events on NBC and USA.
