It’s difficult to not be excited about next week’s Major League Soccer SuperDraft, both because it is very deep and includes multiple players with local connections. Yes, I did cover Michael Lahoud when he was still in high school. That tends to make one into a sort-of homer.
In any case, D.C. United owns picks six and seven in the first round — you already know that — and they’re certainly not saying what they’re going to do with those picks. I’m venturing a guess that a goalkeeper won’t be taken, with a wink and a nod to our friend, Ives.
As for current United players, I was told this morning that D.C. United will announce today that it’s re-inked Marc Burch. Still in progress, however, both Devon McTavish and Bryan Namoff. Something’s screwy, I must say — Namoff’s deal was one of those that was supposed to be done right after the season. He made $95,000 in base salary last year and was second on the team in league matches started (27) and minutes played (2,398).
Ben Olsen, too, continues to progress or to make progress, depending on how optimistic you’d like to feel. The current plan is that he is going to go through preseason. We’ll leave it at that.
