Perino on the benefits of global warming

In taking a question on global warming Wednesday, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino seemed eager to steal her critics’ thunder.

“Look, this is an issue where I’m sure lots of people would love to ridicule me when I say this,” she began, before adding, “[I]t is true that many people die from cold-related deaths every winter. And there are studies that say that climate change in certain areas of the world would help those individuals.” (Bjorn Lomborg’s new book, “Cool It: The Skeptical Environmentalist’s Guide to Global Warming,” says exactly that, for one).

“Daily Show” host Jon Stewart may have a field day with Perino for that answer, but does that bother her? Apparently not, nor does the fact that the Doonesbury comic strip has been skewering her all week.

On Tuesday, reporter Connie Lawn asked herhow it feels “when you’re parodied the way you are today and this week in Doonesbury, or the way you are on the ‘Daily Show’? How do you really feel? Does it get under your skin?”

But Perino wouldn’t bite. “I hardly have time to check it out,” she said, before moving on to the next question.
