The Redskins have three running backs but no real third-down back. Which is why they remain interested in free agent Brian Westbrook.
They remain in contention for him along with Denver and St. Louis. The Redskins have made the former Eagles star a contract offer, coach Mike Shanahan said.
“We want him to sign with us,” Shanahan said. “I really like Brian and what he’s done and how he’s handling himself.”
Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb, who played with Westbrook in Philadelphia, said they still talk often.
“I don’t have an office in here, so I don’t make the decisions,” McNabb said. “I just want the guy to have the opportunity to … prove critics wrong that he can still play.”
