Gilman takes dual meet

The Gilman track and field team appears poised and ready to stake its claim as the front-runner of the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference.

All spring the Greyhounds have been atop of the league dual-meet standings, and they have completed a perfect 6-0 run after Wednesday?s 75-71 win over host McDonogh. For the first time since 1966, Gilman is the A Conference dual meet champs.

Senior Khalil Uqdah has been a big reason behind the team?s success.

At 5-feet-3, Uqdah continued reaching new heights in the pole vault, going 15-feet-10. That height would have won the event at the Penn Relay Carnival last weekend in Philadelphia, but Uqdah struggled to gain a mark.

“I think he was just a little nervous before his jump,” Gilman track coach Johnnie Foreman said. “It was a shame because he has great athleticism, and has done a great job for us this year.”
