With the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs already locked up and a first-round match-up with Connecticut assured, the Washington Mystics moved one step closer to their goal of setting a franchise record for most wins in a season by beating the San Antonio Silver Stars, 91-79, Tuesday night at Verizon Center.
The win ties the record for most wins in a season (17), a feat achieved by the 2002 and 2004 Mystic teams.

Led by 22 points from All-Star Alana Beard, all five Mystics’ starters scored in double figures as Washington cruised to the victory. The Mystics (17-15) never trailed in the game as they made a season-high 10 three-pointers.
Nikki Teasley tallied a season-high 11 assists and said the total effort by the team is sign of things to come in the playoffs.
“It was one of those games where we were clicking on all cylinders, as a unit, as a whole,” said Teasley. “And there’s no way you can get assists if your teammates aren’t finishing so all the credit goes to them getting open, and just me finding them.”
The Silver Stars (12-20) were led by 20 points from rookie Sophia Young. San Antonio continued its late-season swoon, losing for the 12th time in their its 14 games.
Mystics forward Crystal Robinson was still inactive due to a left ankle sprain but General Manager Linda Hargrove said Robinson did some running during practice Tuesday and that Robinson “might play” Friday when the Mystics host the Detroit Shock but will be a game-time decision.
