LOCAL GAMES Troy at Navy

When » Saturday, 3:30 p.m.

Where » Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, Annapolis

TV » CBS Sports Network

After six straight losses, Navy (2-6) strives to keep its hopes alive for a ninth-straight winning season and a bowl game. Navy QB Kriss Proctor’s return is questionable after he missed last week’s 56-14 loss at Notre Dame with a dislocated elbow. After winning at least a share of the Sun Belt title five straight years, the struggles of Troy (2-5) mirror those of Navy. The Trojans’ three-game conference skid is their longest since they joined the Sun Belt in 2004.

Fordham at Georgetown

When » Saturday, 1 p.m.

Where » Multi-Sport Field

Because Fordham (1-7) offers scholarships, this game no longer counts toward the league standings for Georgetown (7-2), which plays Lehigh (6-1) for the Patriot League title on Nov. 12. The Hoyas’ four-game winning streak has been fueled by a disruptive defense that has forced 27 turnovers, third best in the FCS. The Hoyas look to stop 6-foot-3, 235-pound Darryl Whiting, who had career highs in carries (38) and yards (251) in a 24-19 Fordham win last year.

Howard at Hampton

When » Saturday, 1 p.m.

Where » Armstrong Stadium, Hampton, Va.

In one of the nation’s classic rivalries between Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hampton has won the last 14 meetings and leads the series 47-39-1. The Pirates (5-3, 3-2) have scored at least 30 points in six of the last seven meetings but will have a tough time doing that against the Bison (4-5, 3-3), who rank eighth in the nation in total defense (293 ypg) behind LB Keith Pough. Freshman QB Greg McGhee triggers the spread offense of first-year coach Gary Harrell.

Guilford at Catholic

When » Saturday, 1 p.m.

Where » Cardinal Stadium

On Senior Day, Catholic (5-3, 1-3) looks to clinch a winning season against Old Dominion Athletic Conference doormat Guilford (1-7, 0-4). Junior QB Greg Cordivari leads the conference at 320 yards passing per game. Sophomore LB Conor Stueckler (75 tackles) sparks the Cardinal’s defense. Senior starters playing their final home game include LB James Fucillo, DE Kirk Kasa and C Kenny Meyer.

Top five games this weekend

5 Texas A&M at No. 7 Oklahoma » Possible NFL first-round draft choices Landry Jones (Oklahoma) and Ryan Tannehill (Texas A&M) square off in another Big 12 shootout. The Sooners are coming off a 58-17 romp at previously undefeated Kansas State. The Aggies have lost two games by a combined five points and another in OT. (Saturday, 3:30 p.m., ABC)

4 Army at Air Force » After losing 11 straight to service academy rivals, Army (3-5) might be ready to challenge for a Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy, largely because of the defensive struggles of Air Force (4-4) and Navy (2-6). Army ranks first in the nation in rushing (369 ypg) but has faced a considerably easier schedule than either of its service-academy rivals. (Saturday, 3:30 p.m., CBS)

3 No. 17 Kansas State at No. ?3 Oklahoma State » After allowing Landry Jones to throw for a Oklahoma record 505 yards, including 171 to All-American wideout Ryan Broyles, in a 58-17 loss, burned Kansas State looks for the answer against the Cowboys’ equally potent aerial combo: Brandon Weeden and Justin Blackmon. (Saturday, 8 p.m., ESPN2)

2

No. 10 South Carolina at No. 8 Arkansas »

The Gamecocks need to win to retain their edge on Georgia in the SEC East. It won’t be easy against an Arkansas team that has beaten them four of the last five meetings. Ryan Mallett did the honors the last two years. QB Tyler Wilson has been equally adept this season. Arkansas is unlikely to catch LSU or Alabama in the SEC West. (Saturday, 7:15 p.m., ESPN)

1 No. 1 LSU at No. 2 Alabama ?» It’s an intriguing matchup of elite defenses. The Tigers are more about speed. The Crimson Tide are more about power. There is plenty more at stake than rankings as the winner will take over first place in the SEC West. Alabama coach Nick Saban, who led LSU to the national title in 2004, will try to set the tone with RB Trent Richardson. (Saturday, 8?p.m., CBS)
