Damar Hamlin injury: NFL will not resume Bengals-Bills game this week after horror incident

The NFL announced it would not resume Monday night’s game between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals after a player collapsed on the field.

No decision on resuming the game at a future date has been made, according to a statement from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. But the cancellation will not affect the schedule for Week 18.

The cancellation comes after Bills safety Damar Hamlin went into cardiac arrest on the field Monday night. He remains in critical condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center’s intensive care unit as of Tuesday afternoon, according to the Bills.

“The NFL continues to be in regular contact with the medical team caring for Damar Hamlin, and also the Bills and Bengals organizations and the NFL Players Association,” the league said in a statement.

The decision not to reschedule the game this week was made after Goodell talked to the NFL Players Association and both teams, according to the statement.
