Welcome to this week?s edition of The Examiner?s “Tailgater of Year” contest, where The Examiner selects the best tailgaters from college and professional football games in the Baltimore area.
We?re not just looking for a small grill with some hotdogs and hamburgers on it. We?re looking for extravagant, like a portable sports bar with menu items you can?t find on the dollar menu at a fast food restaurant.
We have high expectations for you, football fans. Please, don?t let us down.
Think you have what it takes?
At the end of the season, each of the weekly winners will be posted on examiner.com and the one with the highest number of votes gets the bragging rights, as well as a prize.
This week, we were very impressed by the tailgating at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, but no one hosted a better party than Navy seniors Erik Sink and Chris Ventura, who spent 10 hours roasting a pig ? that?s what we call dedication.
Think you can beat Sink and Ventura? Let us know where to find you. If you think you can throw a party with the best of them, please e-mail [email protected].
THIS WEEK?S WINNER: ERIK SINK AND CHRIS VENTURA
» LOCATION: Parking lot next to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, adjacent to Taylor Ave.
» HOST: 11th Company Tigers, led by Sink and Ventura
» SET-UP: Before every home game, the company uses a different theme for its tailgating area, including an 1980?s theme and a Hawaiian one for last Saturday?s game against Delaware. Also, a member of the group will wear a Tiger costume, the company?s mascot.
» WHAT?S ON THE GRILL: Roasted pig, turkey, sausages
» BEST SIDE DISHES: Homemade cookies
» SIGNATURE DISH: Buffalo wings and ribs
» PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE: 150
» EXPERIENCE: Each company at the Naval Academy has a tailgating stations, but Sink said his group tries to be the most original. “Most companies just have hot dogs and hamburgers,” he said. “But we try to go all out each week. [Against Delaware] we got a full pig that took 10 hours to roast.”
