Player of the Year
Maggie MacKeever
Churchill, senior
Four-time Examiner Player of the Year went 18-0 this season, winning her third Montgomery County title in the fall and third state championship in the spring. In four years, MacKeever lost only one match to a Montgomery County opponent – Quince Orchard’s Alice Chen in the 2004 region final. In her career, MacKeever beat Chen in the county final four times and the state final twice. Will play next year at Maryland.
Coach of the Year
Ali Yagci
Holy Cross
In his first season, Yagci led the Tartans to a perfect record (14-0) and first Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title in school history. To do it, Holy Cross had to topple defending champion Paul VI, which edged the Tartans for the regular season and tournament titles the previous two seasons. Yagci works for Sports Plus, a sports marketing company, and teaches tennis at Georgetown Prep, Quince Orchard and Palisades.
First Team Singles
Alice Chen
Quince Orchard, senior
Made it tothe county, region and state finals for second straight year. The four-time All-Examiner first-team choice will play for Maryland. Ranked No. 11 in MATA 18s.
Agnes Sibilski
Stone Ridge, Junior
Went 13-0 at No. 1 singles, leading Gators to regular season and tournament titles in the ISL last fall. Ranked No. 1 in the Mid-Atlantic 18s.
Maria Fuccillo
Holy Cross, Freshman
Went undefeated in winning the WCAC championship in singles and doubles, where she combined with sister Angela. Ranked No. 1 in the MATA 16s.
Angela Fuccillo
Holy Cross, senior
A year after finishing as runner up at No. 1 singles in the WCAC tourney, Fuccillo went undefeated at No. 2 and combined with sister Maria to capture WCAC doubles title.
Carmen Jackman
Blake, sophomore
Went 12-2 with a victory in the regular season over QO’s Alice Chen. Made it to semifinals in county and region tournaments. Ranked No. 11 in the MATA 16s.
First Team Doubles
Maraya Pratt-Jocelyn Falk
Walter Johnson, sophomore/senior
Falk combined with Amanda Click to finish as runner up at No. 1 doubles in Montgomery County finals. This year Falk combined with Pratt to win the county No. 1 championship.
Courtney McGlynn-Laura Mickum
Stone Ridge, junior/junior
Mickum combined with Jessie Young to win three ISL doubles titles. This year, she teamed with McGlynn and the pair went 10-1 with an ISL title in the fall.
Lauren Wolman-Tiffany Lin
Walter Johnson, sophomore/freshman
The Wildcats’ top two singles players in the fall,teamed up in the spring to win a Maryland state doubles championship, defeating LaPlata.
