Wizards get Suns-burned at home

The Wizards, and others for that matter, touted themselves as the Suns of the East. But the Suns of the West turned out to be more athletic, sharper shooters and more unselfish.

The Suns of the West also happen to be the top team in the NBA.

That was not in doubt last night as they rolled to a 127-105 win over the Wizards (24-17).

“It lets us know we still have a ways to go before we can become contenders,” said Wizards forward Antawn Jamison. “It’s a disgrace to play like this on our home floor. There comes a time when you have to stop people.”

Phoenix (33-8), winners of 14 straight, made 61 percent of its shots, passed for 35 assists and made 13 three-pointers — 11 in the first half. Two-time MVP Steve Nash scored 27 points and passed for 14 assists. Washington’s Gilbert Arenas scored 31 points — 23 less than in the Wizards’ win at Phoenix in December.

The Wizards, who had a 10-game home winning streak snapped, trailed by at least 14 after the midway point of the first quarter.
