Because it’s been a few weeks and we missed hearing Clinton Portis talk (OK, we really didn’t), we bring you yet another installment of the Portis Tapes. This time, he was on ESPN’s First and 10. Not happy about this one because when he’s on the radio, we know what time he’ll come on. Today, we had to sit through way too much Skip Bayless.

Anyway, here are the highlights:
On his relationship with Jason Campbell: “They took that out of context… The only thing I said was that Jason is not a vocal leader (Oh, really? Here’s what he did say). They took it and ran with it like I was saying Jason was a horrible person. I immediately squashed it. I did it on live radio and the next day they printed my comments in the paper. It wasn’t like I was throwing Jason under the bus. Jason isn’t the type to yell or be mad or be sad. What I was telling was the truth. … I think everyone on our team knows that Jason isn’t the type of guy that will yell or be down and out. His demeanor don’t change. That’s all I was saying. I guess the backlash came from it. We squashed it; me and Jason we talked an hour or so after the situation. I cleared it up with him. I wasn’t throwing him under the bus. I just said he wasn’t the vocal person who would go out and rah-rah and yell. That wasn’t Jason and everyone knows that.”
On Mike Shanahan: “It’s great for myself to get the opportunity, just knowing his game plan and … knowing teams can’t focus on the run. If they stop the run, we have play-action. It’s really hit or miss. I’m looking forward ot it. I know what I’m capable of doing and I can’t wait to get on the field next year to prove to people that I’m far from washed up and done. I will walk away from this game when I’m ready. The game won’t pass me by. I’m eager to prove to people that they’re wrong about me. Everybody is so caught up in thinking that me and coach Zorn couldn’t get along. And I was selfish. And I was Mr. Snyder’s best friend and I can do whatever I wanted to do. That wasn’t the case. A lot of that was blown out of proportion. I speak to Mr. Snyder. I’m not afraid to speak to my boss. It’s a lot of finger-pointing and I think coach Shanahan will get rid of that. You don’t have to worry about who’s doing his job or who’s not. With coach Shanahan, if you’re doing your job you’ll be fine and if not, you won’t be there.”
On if the costumes will ever make a return: “Man, I took so much heat for everything I was doing I tried to fall out of the public eye. As far as the characters, it became a cry for help, a search for identity and everything else. I tried to fall under the radar and go to work. … With the media in DC, teammates taking shots, I got so tired of all the BS that I fell back. With coach Shanahan coming in, that will give us the opportunity to have fun. It’s always fun when we’re winning and we haven’t been winning. If we start winning, we can have fun again.”
