Terps’ O’Brien, Cavaliers’ Parks among those named
Local teams were well represented in the weekly ACC football honors, announced Tuesday. Maryland quarterback Danny O’Brien is back of the week after completing 31 of 44 passes for 348 yards in Maryland’s 32-24 victory over Miami.
Other Terps among the seven ACC players named were tackle Joe Vellano, who recovered two fumbles and returned one for a touchdown, and cornerback Cameron Chism, who had a game-clinching interception return for a touchdown and forced the fumble that Vellano turned into a score.
Virginia running back Kevin Parks, who rushed 16 times for 114 yards and three touchdowns in the Cavaliers’ 40-3 victory over William & Mary, is the rookie of the week. Center Anthony Mihota, from Massaponax High in Fredericksburg, had 16 knockdown blocks on 67 plays to earn the offensive lineman award.
